Chilamate School Fun and Work

Today we went to the Chilamate school. We brought basketballs for the kids to play with during breaks and lunch. When we arrived, the students looked excited but weren't sure what to do with the new goals. We gave them some time to play with the basketballs and shoot. We then showed them some of the basic fundamentals of basketball. We also taught them the great game of knockout. The students looked excited to learn a new game. With every shot, they would cheer each other on to encourage each other. Stillman showed a couple of students the basics of basketball with the help of a student who spoke English and Spanish. One 10 year old student said, "I've had a basketball since I was three, but I've never had a place to use it!" This made us feel very happy that we were helping this school and God allowed us to enhance this boy's life. Bradford said this was the most fun he had ever had! David said the kids he was playing with always let him lead the group because they were happy that we had brought basketballs to them. The group of students that were at school during the morning session left early today at 10am. They looked disappointed to have to leave the new play area. After students left, we began pulling weeds and filling in holes in the ground of the playground. We also hauled gravel for a new walkway. Then we walked back to the Eco lodge for a quick break and lunch. We are looking forward to returning to the school for one last time tomorrow to play with the kids before going to La Fortuna on Wednesday. This post was written by our team of boys. :)
